The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Mains Online Form 2026 for the Civil Services (IAS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination under Advt. No. 05/2026. The preliminary exam was conducted on 24 May 2026, and now eligible candidates can apply for the Mains stage. The application process has started on 19 June 2026 and will remain open until 29 June 2026. Candidates must be between 21 to 32 years of age as on 01 August 2026. UPSC Civil Services IAS/IFS Pre Recruitment 2026 : Mode of Selection
- 🟢 Preliminary Examination
- The first stage is the Prelims Exam, which serves as a screening test.
- It consists of objective‑type questions covering General Studies and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test).
- Marks obtained in the Prelims are qualifying in nature and are not counted for the final merit list.
- 🟢 Main Examination
- Candidates who qualify the Prelims will be eligible to appear for the Mains Exam.
- The Mains is a written examination consisting of descriptive papers in subjects such as Essay, General Studies, and Optional Subjects.
- Marks obtained in the Mains are counted towards the final merit ranking.
- 🟢 Interview / Personality Test
- Candidates shortlisted from the Mains will be called for the Interview/Personality Test.
- This stage assesses the candidate’s communication skills, leadership qualities, decision‑making ability, and overall suitability for administrative responsibilities.
- Marks obtained in the Interview are added to the Mains score to prepare the final merit list.
